Why should money be there?

A Short Story Written by me
(Life is so strange)------Artistic wRiter

One day I met one of my old friends, Yadav in a coffee shop. I still remember his character in the school days; he was very stingy and never used to spend any of his money for his friend’s. I never used to have coffee outside but that day one of my office mate asked me to meet him there as he had a parcel to be handed over. I got the parcel and when I was about to leave, Yadav caught me from behind and forced me to have a coffee with him. I denied it first, but when he forced for the second time, I couldn’t neglect. We had a long chat about our job, our families and this went on for sometime and than we decided to have our dinner there itself. We ordered our food and decided to share the total bill just as we do in the school days. We continued our chat and he enquired about my marriage life, I said that I am still unmarried. He gave a big smile and said, “you are a very happy man!” from this I understood that he was married. I asked him how many kids he have, he said one boy, 3yrs old. We finished our dinner and I promised to come and meet his son one day. We asked for the bill.

The bill was 535/-RS, and since Yadav is a good lover of foods I didn’t expect anything less. I ran my hand inside my purse and was shocked to find just fifty rupees alone, as I always carry less cash and remaining in my debit card. My face turned white and I was afraid how Yadav will react (thinking his school day’s character). But to my surprise Yadav kept 600/-RS on the table and asked the waiter to keep the change. He turned towards me and said, “Let this be my treat”. I was dump struck. I thanked Yadav and explained him my current situation. I exclaimed, “why should money be there? Instead people could have bargained like the olden days na?” to my surprise Yadav suddenly gave a loud laugh, and almost everyone in the hotel turned and had a look at us. As it was getting very late, we couldn’t discuss on that topic, that day.

Days passed, almost after three months I visited Yadav’s house. He was very happy to see me, so was his wife and his small boy. I bought few toys for the boy and I thanked Yadav for the treat he gave me that day. Suddenly I remembered Yadav laughing aloud that day and explained the situation to his wife, when she heard this, she too gave out a hearty laugh. I realized that something must have happened related to that topic and that must have changed Yadav’s character. So I asked Yadav “What was the matter?”

Yadav was just as stingy as he was in the school days till a year before. But a small incident occurred in his life, which changed his whole character. Even though Yadav was strict in spending money, he too got into money trouble one day. He was asked to pay about 1, 00,000/-RS by the moneylender from whom he got the money to buy a property. But Yadav couldn’t get any idea of finding a source to return the money. That night Yadav and his wife discussed about this issue and they were worried about this issue. Finally Yadav cursed the world “why should money be there?” though they were in critical situation; his wife couldn’t stop laughing at this childish thought of Yadav. She somehow consoled her husband and both of them went to sleep.

Next day morning Yadav as usual went to nearby grocery shop to buy the morning newspaper, milk and vegetable for the break fast. On the way Yadav found a boy collecting stones, which fell down from an old man’s bag. Yadav couldn’t understand why the boy is collecting stone and why the old man was carrying it in his bag, he thought for a while and decided that he might be picking them for playing. But after a while he saw a big guy beating the boy and getting the stones from him, and the old man was found near him. Yadav was very curious about the matter, but he had no time to waste, as he was already late for work. He rushed to the grocery shop and gave a 100/-RS and asked for his groceries. The shopkeeper turned towards him but didn’t get the money, instead he attended another customer. This went on for a while, Yadav got wild and said, and “why aren’t you attending me” the shopkeeper turned towards him and said, “Bring me some stones and I will give you the groceries” Yadav asked,  “what stones? Take the money and give me the change tomorrow” The shopkeeper said, “what money? Who want this small piece of paper, I have enough of them, I am building a house and I am in need of black stones for concrete roofing, so bring the stone and get the groceries”

Yadav was really shocked “what happened to these people, is there no value for money!” Yadav had some stones left from his roofing work; he took all of them and went to the shop. The shopkeeper was delighted he took the stones and gave Yadav groceries, which was enough for almost two weeks. Yadav was shocked; he informed this to his wife, she was shocked too. According to his calculation to buy groceries for two weeks he at least need 2000/-Rs but he would have given just 200 stones, so he thought one stone cost 10RS ha ha ha quiet funny isn’t it? Yadav said, “I hope from now stones are used as money”

Yadav had some old clothes at home, that evening Yadav took the cloths to sell it for some stones, on the way a TV show room man stopped him and asked his old cloths for 21” colour TV. Yadav was really very happy; he thought that today is his luckiest day. But he realized one thing that as there is no money any more, what ever thing they have they are bargaining it for the thing they want, just like the olden days, and he felt this was better than using money.

Yadav’s wife didn’t know all these things according to her, 1 stone is equal to 10RS, so when the loan lender came to ask for the loan, she asked him to take their house for the debit, and for the remaining give stones, the moneylender was surprised to hear this, but he thought that this was his chance, he gave her about 1,00,000 stones which can be 10,00,000/-RS according to her calculation, and she gave the house documents. She promised to leave the house by next day morning. When Yadav came to know this he was shocked, he went to the shopkeeper and asked for bargain but the shopkeeper had enough of stones and so he denied it. They have nothing but some stones. People’s need may vary from day to day, bargaining for objects works well only if we have the right object at the right time. Now Yadav realized why should money be there, but he was very much worried about the next day. They slept uncomfortably that night.

Next day Yadav woke up and told to his wife, “we have to find someone to sell the stones” his wife asked him, “What stones?” Yadav said everything to her, she had a great laugh and explained him that it was just a dream, Yadav was relaxed and he realized that money is valuable but life values more than that. So he sold one of his property and paid the moneylender 1,00,0000/-RS and from that day he started living in a new way
When I heard this story, I really felt funny but at the same time there is something we can learn from this, we all had a hearty laugh that day. One small dream can change man’s character ah? Its quiet strange, that’s why I always say
Life is so strange, isn’t it?

In the way of animal

A Short Story Written by me
(Life is so strange)------ Artistic wRiter

Once in a while I used to visit my native, Kerala. I always used to go in train but this time I was forced to go by Bus, as I didn’t do the reservation work previously. I got my ticket from my travel agent, I got into a Volvo airbus, and I don’t remember the name exactly. After sometime, when the bus was about to leave, a lady hopped in and she had a small ‘Boxer’ (dog) in her hand and she called it spotty (quiet strange! I couldn’t even find a single spot in its body).” Now a days people name their pets, what ever the like!” I exclaimed. The lady threw an ice-cold stare at me. I was dump struck, suddenly the conductor came and informed the lady that she is not supposed bring pets into the bus. The lady showed two tickets and commented that one’s for her and the other one for spotty. And she in fact demanded for a separate seat for the dog. The conductor was shattered and the passenger whose seat was next to the dog got wild and shouted at the lady. (Her seat was in the right side, with three seats berth)

The lady was almost in tears. I had soft corner for pets, (more than that, now for that lady) I stood up and gave lengthy lecture, that animals should be shown some respect, after all they too deserve to live just like any other living organism. The lady’s eyes were filled with tears hearing to my speech (I think she was flattered by my speech) my next target was the guy sitting next to me (my seat was in the left side with two seats berth) I humbly asked him sit in the dog’s, sorry in spotty’s place. And he too agreed. I place spotty next to me and the journey started again, I wondered “why men ill-treat animals?”

Suddenly I saw some kind of wormhole right in the middle of NH-47, could you believe it? The bus went right into the wormhole and everything went dark, when the light was on again I was peeping through a window of a car. I found that whole area was somewhat stinky and re-constructed. All the controls and all the symbols found around were re-shaped. The car was traveling in some kind of highway. I thought to see who was riding with me. But I cant; some one was holding my neck. Another Car suddenly over took us and it was swifter. It was a strange looking car with just 3 tires. My car accelerated and neared that car. A dog was sitting in the driver seat and it was in fact driving the car, the steering and all the other part of the car was different from ordinary cars. It steering was like a pogo stick with two holes in between, two to insert the two hands of the dog for a grip. The dog stretched its neck outside and barked, and sped past us. I could hear some more barking noise, which was inside my car.

The car entered some kind of strange looking city. All the shops and all the buildings had something different in them. I saw a cobbler’s shop where instead of one pair of shoe, two pairs where hanged. There were different kinds of shoes. One type was small and cubic, one was oval shaped, and another one was huge and square shaped and so on. Suddenly I had a look at the shopkeeper in a grocery shop nearby, he was sorry; it was a big ox wearing a shirt and dhoti. He looks like my neighbor madhavan, ha ha ha, we used to call him “an ox”. I saw a huge Elephant crossing the road, wearing a madisaar saree, when our car stopped in a signal. It looked just like our computer teacher (hey no offence) ha ha in fact she was still fatter! Anyway I was wondering what crazy things are going on in this world, what happened to all the human beings. I think I am the only human around.

The car entered a domestic region. There I saw more shocking things. There was a human tied in front of each house. I saw a cart, which was dragged by a man, and riding on it was a fatty horse. I know its strange, but its true! trust me. I hope the wormhole brought me to a world where humans are treated as animals.

The car entered a house. The house name was “Big Boxer’s”, written in the main gate. I think I am a pet of big dog family. The doors opened and some one was pulling my neck. I had a collar strap around my neck and a big dog, which looks exactly like spotty, held the chain connected to it. I refused to come out and the dog came near and bit my nose. I screamed in pain, now the dog started licking all over my face. I closed my eyes, when I opened my eyes again I found spotty licking my face, sitting next to me. I left the dog down and said, “shoo shooo” asking it to go away from me. All the passengers in the bus were woken up by the noise I made, and now they were all laughing at me, including that lady. The whole damn thing was just a dream after all and thank god that I alone knew it.

The End

The Shadows of the lights

A New Story Written By Me... Please read the Preface and comment... will encourage me to complete the story!

Introduction:

The shadows of the lights are the reflection of the life of many lies hidden behind the shadows of many people. Shadows are those image casted by the light on any objects its falls on, lies are pretty similar to this, truths are like the stars in the sky, some are very clear and seen to everyone, where as some are hidden to strangers and only close one knows. Some truths are very normal, it does not affect any if told, but some have great effects, it falls on the victim and many times cast its shadows of lies and moves ahead. Literally there are only a very few who bears this effects and still sticks to the truth. There is nothing new about the things I am telling now; it’s all very well known to us, but still I have to make sure that everyone knows what I meant about the title. So that concludes the title explanation.
The story is about the life of few young people having kept their first footstep in the outside world, their college life far from their house. It includes everything that can happen in a college life, making friends and making enemies, gangs, freaking out, ragging, falling in love, real love, fake love,  victorious love, and clash between students, gangs, and friends too. This one covers everything. The story goes on well in a new fashioned college life, but this doesn’t have anything to do with the title of the shadows of the lights. Of course there are many truths hidden in college life, but my story too hides something from you till the first half of the story.
I can’t say that there are no heroes in this story; there is one whose identity is not revealed till the second half of the story. There are huge bunch of guys in this story, whose life will be observed throughout the story, but there is one guy who holds the major share of the shadows (lies) of the story. Once the true light is revealed the adventure part of the story will start. The adventure may be illogical or hard to happen, but in life there is always an exception
But above all the story shows the true colours of the common life, just like college, it teach us the values of friendship, in what ways a friends shoulders can be used, to lay on it when we are desperate, to hold on to when we need to get up, to thrust on when we are in pressure and to push forward when we need a leader. It shows the pure feeling of true love, besides there is nothing called a fake love, it’s just infatuation; it brings back all the joys of college to the one who left, enhances the life of the ones who are still in it and shows a piece of future of the one who are yet to keep their first footstep outside...

.................................... A story that what should have happened in my life too
